Environment concept artist and art director. I've spent my career building worlds for games, animation, and film.
Capture and reconstruction experiments — turning real places and moments into explorable 3D scenes.
A small tool that turns handwriting into a working typeface.
Design and world-building for an original tabletop game universe.
I'm Andre Balmet, a designer and creative lead in Los Angeles.
I started in architecture — a degree and several years at a firm — before following the pull toward entertainment and earning a BFA in Animation/Illustration from San Jose State. Since then I've spent over a decade as an environment concept artist, mostly in games, along with animation, TV, and film, including work on an award-winning VR title.
In recent years I moved into art direction and creative leadership — running teams and pipelines, solving the technical problems as often as the visual ones. These days I build creative tools at Meta. The common thread has always been the same: I like hard, open-ended problems, and I like making worlds people can believe in.
Off hours: photography, 3D experiments, and motorcycles.
